LIDL TO HOLD PUBLIC CONSULTATION DAY FOR NEW STORE ON HAYLING ISLAND

Lidl UK has announced that it will be holding a public consultation day to outline plans for its new store at Rookery Field, Manor Road, Hayling Island.

The public are invited to attend the event, which will take place at 10 am till 7pm on Friday 10th March at South Hayling United Reformed Church (Hollow Lane, Hayling Island, PO11 9EY). Lidl’s dedicated property team will be on hand to outline the supermarket’s plans for a new store and answer any questions from the local community.

The supermarket secured the site for the brand new Hayling Island store in August 2016, forming a key part of its ongoing expansion ambitions within the UK.

The multi-million pound investment, which will be of a similar design to the supermarket’s newly opened Portchester store, will see Lidl commit to building a sustainable 2462m² store, with plans to create up to 40 new jobs. The supermarket will boast state of the art facilities including an instore bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, James Mitchell, commented: “We are very excited about the prospect of opening a Lidl on Hayling Island,  improving shopping choice locally and bringing our top quality products at the lowest possible prices. We’ve had such a positive response to our new Portchester store and look forward to sharing plans for our Hayling Island store with the community at the public consultation day.”

The supermarket, which was crowned ‘Best Supermarket 2016’ by readers of Good Housekeeping, has experienced continued growth over the years, as consumers flock to the shop to discover products ranging from quality British fruit and vegetables to premiums wines from its much coveted Wine Cellar collections. Lidl’s success shows no signs of slowing, as the latest Kantar Worldpanel results outline its continued sales growth of 9.4%.

The planned Hayling Island store will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio of 650, and will form part of the company’s growth plans which hope to see this increase to 1,500 store in the future.

The company hopes to submit a planning application in April and those who wish to share any feedback or show their support for the plans can do so at eithe
